Pacifism/War correspondence
Description:
File includes a 1917 letter sent out from the headquarters offices in St. Louis, MO concerning the necessary procedures to be followed in order for members to be recognized as conscientious objectors. No assembly could take advantage of the exemption law unless they were duly incorporated with a recognized religious body whose articles of faith and constitution declared them to be opposed to war and to military service. As a result of this letter, there were great numbers of churches who became officially affiliated with the General Council. The file includes other correspondence dealing with questions concerning military service.
